How to add Categories to WordPress

We will study about add categories in WordPress. Category is used to indicate sections of posts related to your site and group. This group divides the content into different sections. This is a very convenient way to organize posts.

To access the Category section, follow these steps –

Step (1) − Click on the Posts → Categories option in WordPress.

Step (2) − The Categories page is shown in the following screenshot.

Field details are given on the following categories.

  • Name − Enter the unique names of categories.
  • Slug − One word chosen to describe your post. This tag is specified in the URL
  • Parent − By selecting the original category from the parent – dropdown, you can set the special category as a sub-category or it can not be any one.
  • Description − Add a description of your category. This is optional.

Step (3) − After filling all the information about Categories, click the Add New Category button.

Step (4) − AAfter clicking Add New Category, the newly created category will be displayed on the right side of the page as shown in the following screen.

Two major building blocks in the WordPress environment are installed taxonomies and post types.

  • Taxonomy  A grouping of post types, such as categories and tags.
  • Post types With post types, WordPress creates a distinction in different content types. For example, by default WordPress has different post types for “posts”, “pages”, “attachments”, etc.

WooCommerce creates a few different posts types and a couple of taxonomies to group those post types.

WOOCOMMERCE TAXONOMIES AND POST TYPES

WooCommerce installs the following post types and taxonomies — the first levels are post types, and the second levels are taxonomies for their top-level post type.

  • Product: product
    • Product categories: product_cat
    • Product tags: product_tag

How to edit media in WordPress

  • URL − You can read only one link from the media file.
  • Title − Displays the name of the media. The title is often shown in galleries and attachment pages, if the theme or plugins are designed to display it.
  • Permalink − Permalink is the URL of the Media file attachment page. There is also a link to view this attachment page.
  • Edit image button − This allows you to edit image position, such as counter-clockwise, flip rotate clockwise, scale, crop, walk vertically and horizontally.
  • Caption − brief description of the media.
  • Alternate Text − Alt Text for the Image, which is used to describe the media. Used for availability.
  • Description − Explanation of your media file.
  • Delete Permanently − permanently delete your media file.

Step (4) − Once you’ve completed the required field, click the Update button to save the changes made to the image.

  • Allow trackback and ping-back on this page – Allows visitors to provide ping and trackback.
